Description
King's Seat, also known as Arthur Seat, offers a moderate hill walk near the heart of the city, standing at just 882 ft. The ascent and descent should take no more than 2 hours, with limited parking available at the foot of the hill near Holyrood Palace. There are well-trodden pathways and a less taxing road route to choose from, and the rugged paths can be navigated in trainers. The summit offers stunning views across the city and beyond, with plenty of city landmarks to pick out. Additionally, the area features two lochs with a variety of wildlife, including swans and ducks. It is recommended to bring appropriate clothing for the weather and comfortable hiking shoes due to the rough terrain. While the south side near Holyrood Palace offers a long and rocky ascent, the east side provides a smoother and less steep descent. Despite potential fog, the breathtaking views from the top make the hike well worth it.
