I picked this spot for dinner because the reviews were really good. I was a little nervous when we walked in because there was almost no one inside. But we climbed the stairs to a vibrant dining room and all was well. We ordered the crispy octopus for an appetizer and I had the duck as my entrée. The crispy octopus was amazing. The sauce served with it was spicy and so delicious. The duck was perfectly prepared and paired with an excellent sauce. We were both pleased with our meals and will be back again.

Wanted to share some constructive criticism. My party came here for New Year's Eve.

What we realized (and what I see repeatedly on comments) is the misrepresentation of "outdoor seating". Given the situation we're in, I suggest that you seriously re-word all areas on your website/booking platforms that your outdoor space is in fact ENCLOSED (a door that's never opened, and 1 air ventilation vent does not count). For customers looking for a safe place to eat, not to mention $25/person cancellation fees... clarity will make your guests feel better.

Second, as someone who has been in the service industry. I would highly suggest you re-train some of your staff on the level of service expected for a $70 set menu restaurant. Our table found our waitress curt in her responses. Also, when collecting the seafood appetizer dish, we were asked to pick up our shells and place them on the dish she was collecting. Really?

The food was decent, but you're doing your business a disservice in being disingenuous in your advertising and service quality.

Please consider this constructive criticism for future patrons.

Hands down one of the best meals we’ve had in NYC to date. The octopus was insanely good and every dish we had was absolutely delicious. So glad we found this place and definitely coming back when we are in town.

Stopped by to see what "Asian Fusion" is all about. And wow! This place is pretty incredible. Had the sea urchin donabe and really am at a loss for words. The food here is amazing. I will be back!

This place never disappoints. I love that the menu is constantly evolving. Every time you go you see something new, but still see the dishes that are the biggest winners in this restaurant (the eggplant, king crab noodles, branzino, I can keep going because they are all incredible dishes)
The service is also amazing, it's fine dining but in a relaxed atmosphere.
I've taken friends that visit from out of town who are real foodies and every time everyone is so happy that I took them there.
Hortus is one of my favorite restaurants in NYC.
