Description
The Franklin Park Bear Dens, an original exhibit from the Franklin Park Zoo's 1912 opening, have evolved into a secluded historical site accessible via hiking trails in the Franklin Park woodlands. Designed by landscape architect Arthur Shurtliff, the dens feature intricate carvings and a notable bas-relief of two bears holding the City of Boston seal. Although the exhibit closed in 1960 due to financial difficulties, the area now offers a serene environment for nature walks and photography. Visitors can explore remnants of stone walls and staircases, adding to the site's historical intrigue. Convenient parking is available, though it may be limited on game days. The nearby Franklin Park Zoo provides an additional point of interest.
