Often called the most innovative Indian restaurant in North America, Vij's is run by restaurateur and celebrity chef Vikram Vij and his partner, Meeru Dhalwala, who designs the dishes. They have built their reputation—and their menu—by combining Indian flavors with classic European culinary techniques. Vegetarians will swoon over dishes like jackfruit in black cardamom and cumin curry, or garam masala portobello mushrooms in a porcini cream curry. But Vij’s is perhaps best known for its meat. The most famous entree? Lamb "popsicles" in fenugreek cream curry. It's the restaurant's deconstructed take on a rack of lamb. Service is casual and friendly, but always professional. If you're lucky, Vij himself is on the floor; it's his effusive, welcoming personality that truly sets the room apart.
