Description

Fifty years ago, hours after Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was shot at his hotel in Memphis, Democratic presidential candidate Robert Kennedy broke the news to a shocked crowd at 17th and Broadway streets in Indianapolis. Kennedy’s speech calmed the grief-stricken throng and saved Indianapolis from the violence the plagued much of the country. The essence of the moment is captured in bronze and steel at the Kennedy King Memorial in Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Park.
